Ancient had what's called encephalomyopathy or mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis and strokelike episodes (MELAS). And he had progressive external ophthalmoplegia (PEO).
Ah, the irony of it all ... to find out the day after he dies! Anyway, I can at least try to save the rest of the dogs that have so many of these symptoms this winter.
- This is distemper.
- The twitching and spasms left behind are MELAS.
- This is the chronic skin disease we see in street dogs.
- This is the cause of the cataracts that develop prematurely in so many street dogs (NARP)
